Welcome to the January 2007 edition of the Templand Community newsletter and a Happy New Year to all from the Community Council team. The Community Council scheduled a number of events for the last three months of 2006, and we hope that everyone in the community who attended enjoyed them.
Helen Anderson organised a coffee morning and card making demonstration on the 28th October, which was well received by attendees who had already started thinking about Christmas cards. In November, Denis Ison, our Chairman, hosted a quiz night in the hall, which once again proved a success, and will be repeated in this quarters events for the Community.
As Christmas approached, the Council, together with a number of volunteers from around the community started the preparations for our two annual parties in the village; the childrens party, and the older residents Christmas dinner. The Council would like to extend its sincere thanks to all who helped in arranging each of the events, and attended to help on the day, without whose support neither of the events would have been possible. So, thanks to;
Mary-Anne Mason and Moirag Kirkpatrick for preparing and serving the excellent Christmas dinner in the Hall
The Anderson Family for their support to both events including organising the childrens? party presents, waitressing for the grown ups and “crowd control” at the childrens party
David Bedwell for cooking the turkey
Margaret Muir for her support to the Childrens party
The various other community members who prepared parts of the menus for each event, including Helen Jamieson and Jean Ferguson
Reverend Mrs Marr who donated crackers to both parties
And finally .. Father Christmas!

2007 Gala Week
Until last year the village held a Gala Week in late July / August each year. Events included a mini show, childrens sports day, fancy dress competition, pet show, games afternoon and bingo night.
Last years show was not held, due to a lack of local support for the planning and organisation. The Council committee would like feedback from across the community on whether a gala week should be held this year, and if so, who will help to organise it.
Events coming up in the Village Hall
The Council team, with the help of volunteers from the community are planning a series of events over the coming months which we hope will encourage all to come along, meet neighbours and have some fun!
Date TBC later in the spring
The RAF will be hosting an event in the Hall to raise awareness of the role of the RAF and how it affects our community. More details will follow once the date for the event has been agreed with the RAF.
Bingo news
It has been decided that our regular Bingo night will be changed permanently to Wednesdays, following the successful trial in November and December.
We hope that this will continue to prove to be a popular night through the rest of the winter for both regular and new Bingo enthusiasts, and Jean is looking forward to seeing you all as usual at the Hall at 7.30pm each Wednesday, for an 8pm start.
Dates of future Council Meetings
This year Community Council Meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. All welcome to attend.
Winter / spring dates
February 13th, March 13th, April 10, May 8th.

Your community needs you!
The events organised by the Committee, with lots of assistance from community members, help raise valuable funds for community projects, not the least of which is the ingoing maintenance and upgrading of our Village Hall. We are very lucky in Templand to have this local facility available for the whole village to use, and the Community Council want to ensure that it continues to be there for us all in around the village in the future. Our social events also give a real opportunity for everyone in the village to meet and get to know each other, and have some fun!
But to keep going with the calendar of events, we need YOU to join in too.
Do you have an idea for an event that you think would be of interest to members of our community? If yes, then please let us know and we will put it forward to the next Community Council meeting.
Alternatively, would you like to help at any of the events we are planning? If so,please let either the Chairman or the Secretary know (contact details below) and we will put it forward to the next meeting.
Finally, we need EVERYONE to come along to the events and support them on the day (or evening!), so that they are a success. We look forward to seeing you soon!
