World Curling Champion for a 2nd Time!

Congratulations to Lochmaben resident, David Murdoch and his team on their second World Championship win.

Last weekend in Muncton, Canada, David Murdoch became the first Scottish skip to win two World Curling Titles. Murdoch and his team which included Euan Byers of Lockerbie started slowly but then came into form when it mattered in the later stages of the competition. In the final stages they beat world champions, Canada, twice before winning the final 7-6 to take the world title. The Canadians had up till then been "untouchable" as they had gone through a whole year undefeated. This victory was special as it took place in Canada where curling is a major sport and attracts large crowds. Well done to Team Murdoch and best wishes for the Winter Olympics in 2010 in Vancouver!
