Lockerbie & Lochmaben Probus Club

Established in 1980, your local Probus Club is part of an international association.Your local Club caters for retired professional and business men and currently has around 15 members who meet to chat over coffee and fresh baking before listening to talks on varied topics.
The Club meets in the Townhead Hotel, Lockerbie at 10.15 for 10.30 am on the 1st and 4th Thursdays each month and our speakers usually talk for 20-30 minutes, followed by a question and answer session. Club proceedings are reported in the District Diary section of the Annandale Herald.     Membership costs £10 pa.
Our annual programme also includes special events and lunches with partners, and during 2016 the local Club programme included:
(a) 13 talks by club members whose subjects had included: Castle Loch Trust Lochmaben, family wedding in San Francisco, model boat building and refurbishment, Northern Lights Norway cruise, and BBC transmitter maintenance.
(b) Three guest speaker talks about: consultant geriatrician medical training, Millbank Parkland Venison, and South of Scotland Wildlife Hospital.
(c) Two Open Meetings with specialist speakers: British Volunteer Force 1859 to 1908 (with guest historian); and Recycling Consumer Plastics in the UK.
(d) Summer and New Year lunches, and a putting challenge with presentation lunch, with partners.
(e) A General Knowledge Quiz.

During 2017 our guest speakers will cover subjects as varied as: Fracking; Devil’s Porridge; Blood Bikes Charity; The British Infantry Section 1944; Lockerbie Wildlife Trust; and Emergency Life Support.
