Walking

Eight miles of walks around the town combine Rights of Way and local quiet roads. Detailed description of walks is found in the Walking brochure, Walking in and around Lockerbie and Lochmaben, produced by Dumfries & Galloway Council. There is also an informative Town Trail.

You can download a leaflet with information about walks around the Castle Loch Nature Reserve using the link below (PDF format):

Castle Loch There is now a 3 mile circular walk round the loch completely off road. The loch is now owned by the local community and run by the Castle Loch Lochmaben Community Trust.

The Annandale Way is in its entirety a long-distance 5- day walk, going from the Solway Firth, south of Annan to the Devil's Beef Tub, north of Moffat, but interesting walks around Lochmaben as part of the route are easily achievable in a day. The route is 52 miles via Lochmaben and 56 miles via Lockerbie and should take 3 to 5 days to complete.
