Lochmaben Royal Burgh Pipe Band

Practices are held on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm in Lochmaben Primary School.

There is an excellent tuition structure in place for both piping and drumming.  The band participates in local gala's, charity events, weddings coffee morning's and various other fundraising activities which includes hosting a very popular Scottish Night annually in March.

The band also travel to represent Lochmaben at Pipe Band competition's in Scotland and Ireland.  The band had a very successful 2014 when they were crowned United Kingdom Champions. In 2015 & 2016 they were Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway Champions.  This success has seen the band being upgraded to Grade 3A when they finished 7th in the World Pipe Band Championships.

The band has come a long way since its formation in 1940 when newsagent Jock Bell started to teach his paperboys.Sadly the Band folded in the 1960s and lost all its equipment. It was reformed in 1994 by Pipe Major Anthony MacDonald and in 2006 Pipe Major Alan Hope continued the good work done by Anthony MacDonald and started competing nationally in 2008.

The latest development is a link up with Dumfries Pipe Band which was formed in 2014 where the two bands are working together to promote the quality of teaching of pipes and drums in the local area.

If anyone would like any further information on how to become a member of the band please come along to a practice or contact Andrea McRobert on 01387 811664.
